Don’t Call It A Comeback

May 24th, 2008

Hey guys! I finally got my blog working again. Blogger will never prevail. Remember that. So thanks to my Edgar (my blog technician) and Anne Marie, who inspired my little post, I would like to announce I’ve lost about 15 lbs. How you may ask? Well I started this little diet, you might have heard of it, South beach Diet. Now I know most would hate on the diet, I did. Come on, who in their right mind says stop eating rice? I mean Jesus ate rice, right? No? Okay. So yea, good things. I mainly did it for my health. As much as I do prefer to be skinnier than what I am/was, I have bad cholesterol and blood pressure. For a guy that’s only 23 years old, that’s not a good sign. So I am doing something about. One benefit, besides the amazing body God has blessed me with, I picked up some cooking skills. That’s right, cooking skills. It’s out there. I said it. So last night I made brinner. I made a Western Style Omelet stuffed with cheese on a bed of spinach salad. Good stuff. This is one I made for lunch. It’s Grilled Tilapia served with Cauliflower “Mashed Potatoes” with a side of sauteed Spinach.

Hope you guys enjoy it. I might make this into a separate subject like Barista Tales. It’s nice to be back. Leave comments. Tell others, and remember “No matter where you go in life, always keep an eye out for Johnny ‘The Tackling Alzheimer’s Patient.” - Dr. Cox

It may be dark, but God is light

“I may be down but I will rise.” It’s the lyrics of this song from Charlie Hall, a christian worship leader, that seem to speak to me at the moment. It’s been a long week for me and it won’t stop either. Have many things that I just want to complain about, and really just vent. Which I think is healthy, but I realized in the midst of my fustration something profound. While I complain that my computer has “issues”, there is someone trying to make ends meat so he could feed his kids. While my car has a leak that is causing water to spill onto my carpet, there is someone who walks to work everyday because he has no car. While I stress about being able to pay for tuition and books, there is a person who is working because he has to support his family because no one else can.

I just realize that I am blessed. We are all blessed. Period. We are such a materialistic culture that only see what what we want to see. God must look at us like overweight, spoiled brats. I don’t think it’s wrong to have nice things. I think it is wrong when you think those are important. I usually don’t write about God or things that I struggle with, but I realize we are building up a culture that values posessions over life. It just becomes another distraction. Just adhere to my warning. You all are good people and I say this with encouragement. Just take a moment to realize God is good.

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”"Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, ” ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19: 16-26

Barista Tales: Not on the Menu

February 11th, 2008

Customer says: “I never finished my drink even though it’s the smallest size.”
Barista says: Order a short cup. So if you would order a “Tall Latte”, say “Short Latte” and always remember to say please.

Customer says: “I like a lot of foam.” OR “I like more milk than foam.”
Barista says: Order your drink and put the word Dry (if you want more foam) or Wet (More milk than foam) in the middle of the sentence. So for example, I want a Grande Caramel Macchiato with more foam, you would say “Grande Dry Caramel Macchiato.” Also if your really picky, you can say “Semi” (Dry or Wet).

Customer says: “Can you put a shot of expresso in my coffee?”
Barista says: Yes we can. It’s called a “Red Eye” for one shot and “Black Eye” for two shots. I warn you this combination is gross, but will get you through finals week sprinting out the door.

Customer says: “My white Mocha is so sweet when I get to the bottom.”
Barista says: White Mocha is very thick syrup, it doesn’t mix well with milk like the other syrups. Starbucks recipe tells you not to stir. The thing you have to remember, there is a line of twenty and one person on bar, it’s tough to do everything perfect. Best bet is to either stir it yourself or ask it with your order. Never ask them to stir it after the drink was made. We hate that.

Customer says: “I want something that is healthy. What would you recommend?”
Barista says: If your on a Diet, don’t go Starbucks. Period. Healthy is not on the menu.

My main guitar for the last five years or so has been my Heritage H-157. I love it, and I love the company. Here’s a cool vid for both the guitar and non-guitar enthusiast. Check out Heritage guitars for more info.
